Why Blogging?????

Blogging has almost become like Sex. I realized this because there are just so many blogs on the web right now. People over the last few years have fallen head-over-heels in love with reality television. Blogging, if you think about it, is just an extension of this phenomenon. So I've come up with the TOP TEN reasons you, or someone like you, may want to blog.

10. Blogging is fun. You can write about nearly anything without fear of retribution.

9. If you're a girl, you can instantly get attention. Think about how many guys are out there just longing to contact some girl with a hot little picture next to the title of her articles. They crave it. It's like verbal porn to them! Oh, and that same girl is probably a 500-pound heffer with sweat gland problems.

8. Google adsense. It's amazing what a little blogging can do. If you're real good at it and you market yourself, you can coerce people to click on the ads that surround your blog entries even though they usually only lead to harassing spam. You might even make a few bucks in the process.

7. Self-importance. You can be one of a billion people that say "I have a blog" and shamelessly hand out the URL for your important messages and advice.

6. Hive Incorporation - The concept of a blog is not that different than the concept of the Borg in Star Trek. While not a big fan of Trek, I did rather enjoy the whole idea of the Borg. Blogs are a more primitive way to join the collective, if that's what you want to do. I would say - "Blogging is futile" but I don't know if I believe that.

5. Celebrity Status - Most bloggers have a dream of being discovered by the Blog Creator. It's like winning the blog lottery. You might get a spot on a variety show, or even a sit-in with Letterman.

4. Interest from members of the opposite sex (or the same sex if you're so inclined) - Blogs can be used to seduce others. I've seen blogs about heartbreak which are just PR pieces to lure naieve members of the opposite (or same) sex into the sack. It's called pity sex and a blog can help you get to that point if you market yourself well enough.

3. Debate & Argue - People love to fight. It drives some hidden instinct inside us. With a blog we can pick a fight with anyone and see it through to the bitter end.

2. Occupy Time - Most people are bored. I mean we've got hundreds of television channels, DVD's falling off the shelves, computer games, Internet and Internet pornography - the possibilities are endless.

1. This is what you've all be waiting for. If you've suffered through this entire post then you are deserving of a fitting end. If you skipped right to this last reason hoping for the answer to some eternal question - you will not be pleased. There is no real perfect number one answer. I guess it's being able to be heard (read, actually) by a vast audience. To know that the thoughts and words that your brain has produced aren't completely wasted. They resonate in the electric paradigm of the Internet. In a way, that's comforting. It's also frightening.
